Note to Supporters
I was amazed and quite surprised at the unsolicited support Ashley received
in 2004 after Jacqueline Salmon’s feature in the Washington Post. School
teachers sent wonderful books for Ashley’s daughter, a successful
entrepreneur offered a better paying job and job training, a single Mom
donated a significant financial award she could have used for herself, a
former world bank officer sent a donation from Spain, friends emailed friends
asking for support, WRC – TV NBC aired a feature story and a young
girl sent her earnings from her lemonade stand.
The first year in college was quite difficult, with many hurdles and challenges. A
series of one crisis after another threatened to derail our plans. Truly
without the financial support you provided Ashley would not have had a safety
net during those critical days. Because of you Ashley has continued
on her path to earn her degree and one day go on to a successful career. Thank
you for all that you have done. Ashley is following your lead and
now works with other teen women encouraging them to never give up on their
dreams.
I tried to keep good records on all who contacted me but it was quite a
whirlwind. I will be sending one letter to all of the people who contacted
me in 2004, but please contact me to ensure I have the current contact information
for you.
