“Avoiding the Teen Pregnancy Trap” is a documentary that tells
the stories of struggling teen parents and the reality of losing one’s
adolescence in order to be forced to become adults. Teen pregnancy
has been an issue in America for a very long time, and although there has
been a decrease in teen pregnancy in the past fifteen years, the consequences
of unplanned pregnancy continue to affect far too many young people today. The
documentary is meant to dissuade teens from the financial, emotional
and physical responsibilities of parenting before they are ready.
Being a
young parent is not easy and the documentary sheds light on the difficulties
of parenting and missed opportunities through testimonials. Ashley
contributed her story as a teen mom and the challenges she had to face as
well as the sacrifices made in order to adhere to her parenting responsibilities. In
a recorded interview, Ashley tells her story of tribulation and tries her
very best to discourage teens from becoming parents. Her story highlights
the fact that even if one becomes a parent at an early age, he or she
can still gain resiliency and reach success.
